I was reading today, and a sight told me you get paid for residency AFTER your 4 years of medical school.

Thanks

  1. The whole process takes about 10 years.

    1. Graduate High School with honors.

    2. Get accepted to a really good 4-year college.

    3. Major in pre-med; biology, chemistry, science, etc.

    4. Earn a 4.0 (or perfect) GPA.

    5. Get accepted into med school.

    6. Work hard and sacrifice, get perfect grades.

    7. After graduating med school, you'll have opportunities for residency in a hospital.  Work 36-hour shifts for 2-years.

  2. Yes, you get paid during residency, but it is not much compared to the hours you work.  Becoming a doctor is a long road that may look easy, but in actuality, it is a huge investment of time and money and requires great dedication and compassion.

After high school, you would get your undergraduate degree (4yrs).  Then, if you're lucky enough to be accepted right after undergrad, you would attend medical school (4yrs).  After that, you have an MD, but you will need to do a residency in your specialty (3+yrs).  If you're interested in further specialization, you may do an additional fellowship, or you may go out in the work force and finally practice medicine as a full-fledged doctor.  In summary, it will take you well more than ten years before you are done with formal training to become a doctor.
