  1. Stableford scoring system, handicap= 28, gives you two strokes on holes 1-10, and  1 stroke on holes 11-18, its called stroke index.

And in the uk, if you was a high  handicapper, and returned a score of 42, you'd be called a Bandit, and yes, you would get cut (handicap that is)

  2. i think you may have been playing the modified stableford format. and i think it was explained above.

  3. You could have been playing in what is known as a point tournament where you get so many points for net bogey ( 1),for net par( 2 ), for net birdie ( 4 ) , for net eagle ( 8 ) and the accumulated points determine your position. If your score less your handicap equaled par you would probably have earned 36 points. Your score was six better than that so that would have had an effect on your handicap.

  4. Every time you hit the ball is called a stroke.

Even when you stand up to the ball and swing(if you miss)

I am guessing that you got a score 42 in 9 holes maybe?

that is 6 over par since 9 holes is all added up to 36 pars.

  5. Bogey=1 point, Par =2 points, Birdie=4 points and Eagle=8 points.

  6. The tournament you won was probably a Stableford where you get 2 points for a par, 3 for a birdie, 4 for an eagle etc.  With this type of scoring the highest score wins (where normally in golf the lowest score wins).  18 pars would be 36 points, since you had 42 points you were under par and thus your handicap was adjusted down.

  7. Each time you shoot the ball it is called a stroke, each hole has a stroke limit which would be par, if you reach over that limit by say 1 you would then by 1 over par which is bad, the lower score wins. Each stroke is one point if you say, and since you scored 42 points that means it only took you 42 strokes to finish the course, which is really good.
