  1. "Could a simple genetic mutation create an instict that is beneficial to the survival?" - Yes... More a modification of an existing instinct rather than a new instinct all together.

The same way all physical traits evolve in nature.

Instincts are the result of physical characteristic in the brain... All of which are subject to genetic mutaion the same as every other part of an animal... Otherwise our brains would have never evolved.

For example a pigeon might be born who enjoyed flying into moving cars.. But he wouldn't survive in the same way as one born with no wings wouldn't- and that is natural selection.

  2. In evolutionary biology, instincts can be explained in terms of behaviors that favor survival. Question is, how do these behaviours develop and imprint themselves genetically. Could a simple genetic mutation create an instict that is beneficial to the survival?

I'd like to see more replies here.

  3. Crikey, instincts are part of our makeup and depending on the situation, people tend to adapt to our surroundings and progressing like we are now, necessity is the mother of invention after all so as the world changes, we change with it!
