  1. They are the different branches of the Armed Services :-)

www.todaysmilitary.com would be a great website for you because it breaks each branch down and gives lots of specifics including what they do, how long their training is, where they train, what types of jobs they offer, the benefits, etc.

The basic break down of the branches...

Army - Protects the US & its resources (land)

Marines - First in for combat (land/air/sea)

Navy - Protects free trade & US interests overseas (sea)

Air Force - Protects US interests domestically & overseas (air)

Coast Guard - Protects US waterways (sea)

All the branches have parts that overlap, but thats the most basic breakdown I can really give you.

  2. MARINES_____fighters

    NAVY________swimmers

    AIR FORCE___flyers

    ARMY_______all of thee above

  3. good question.

  4. Army...  our basic en masse ground troops.  There's lots of them and they kick up a lot of dust as they roll through.  They travel with lots of equipment and lots of soldiers and dig in for the long haul... once the battle is over, they do a lot of rebuilding... setting up of emergency supplies and basic necessities.

Navy... well... they're the Navy.  They have ships and submarines and carriers... and jets and helicopters that fly off the carriers... and lots of sailors to make it all happen.

Air Force...  Uh... they fly lots of airplanes.. of many different types.

Marine Corps... Essentially, Marines is a water/air/ground fighting force that travels fairly lightly (at least compared to the Army!) and like to get in, get it done, and get out.

Coast guard.  Don't forget the Coasties!!  These folks guard our immediate shores and work closely with the DEA and Customs, to enforce those laws... when violators are using our coastline as a point of entry.  They also have some coastguard vessels in the middle east... I think protecting the port there... what's the city?  The southeastern edge of Iraq... along the gulf...

Now, before anybody gets all mad at me... I know that many of the skills and abilities of these different branches of the military cross over.. I know the Army also goes on the water... I know the Navy sends folks on ground-based operations...  these are just basic differences.  they each have their own purpose and mission.

  5. There's the Army, which is generally more educational inclined. Then there's the Marines, which is more combat oriented than the Army. The Navy is water oriented. The Air Force deals more with air combat (like in planes). There's also the Coast Guard who protect the US coasts. Then there's the Army Reserves who have full-time jobs outside of the Army and serve the Army once a month, but they could still be called into combat.
