  1. Telescopic rods aren't that bad on the basis of two things, firstly as long as they are of good quality and secondly they are well looked after to stop the sections from sticking together, but even the best rods can jam, also they just don't feel right to me and have very little action in both casting and when a  fish is hooked, they are ok for travel, but even then i prefer a multi-section rod as it has a better action and there is no problems with the sections sticking, with a telescopic rod where if this happens you cant collapse the rod down. Then trying to get the thing to collapse and fit back it the travel tube is a big problem.

  2. Most telescopic rods were made really crappy and cheap. Cheap rods with cheap guides and reels.

The result was that most of them never cast very well and then broke really fast.

I have only seen two well made telescopic fishing rods in my life that were any good.

Fishing poles are a bit different. I have a light weight one of 6 sections that makes a 20 foot pole.

It is well made and strong, plus poles are not meant for casting with.

They are meant for dabbing a fly or cricket into the water with.

  3. Telescopic rods are a favorite among many fishermen , because the fisherman can get further out to fish with minimal exertion , the rod allows putting a rod in storage on the boat , usually a 7 ft rod is the max size for a  rod to be stored in regular rod boxes , now with the telescopic rod , you have lots of choices to grad .
