I know there are pounds, schillings, half pence, and things like that. Can someone explain what each is worth? Is it at all like the American system?

  1. Yes it's all metric now. 100 pence (pennies) in a pound. We no longer have shillings (note spelling). Coin denominations are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, £1 and £2.

  2. The Libra Pounda was the first Euro currency started during the Roman Empire and made from gold mined in southern Britain.

In Britain today the currency is the '£ or Pound'

Today there are 100 penny’s to the £.

Under the pre-decimal system - up to the early 1970's

There were 12 penny’s to the shilling

and six penny’s to the tanner

    Two shillings to the florin

Two and a half shillings to the half Crown

and two half crowns to the Dollar and Crown

    Twenty shillings to the £

and Twenty one shillings to the Guinea
