Can someone explain the lines on top of cricket bat handle?

I''ve scoured the internet and I can't find a thing. My bat has got two and my brother, who has just got his, has one. Is it something to do with the size or the grade etc.?

  1. That is designed to absorb the shock when you hit the ball with all your might.

  3. The bat handle is not solid, it is layered and between each layer is a rubber shock absorber. Two rubber strips is a better quality bat than your bros.
