I know that there are all these things and others. Can someone explain to me how they are all linked? if there are others that I have missed, can you also include them?

  1. Global warming is an example of climate change.

Global warming can be triggered by an increase in greenhouse effect. But global warming can trigger a large melt of glaciers that spreads cold fresh water over the oceans, producing a powerful Nina effect... in a word we have a drastic climate shift caused by global warming that is not always warmer.

The Greenhouse effect is created mostly by water vapour, which in turn increases as temperature rises.and rising temperature means we get less cloud cover, so less reflectivity, so more warming.

Increased cloud cover occurs with less water vapour and lower temperatures.

Greenhouse effect is cause by gases bending light, multiply, so that it goes back to earth when it is long wave energy re-radiating from earth.

We have several other greenhouse gases, principal among them being CO2 and CH4 (methane).

Global warming causes increased CO2 and increased methane in hte atmosphere, Increased CO2 or methane will increase greenhouse effect and so global warming.

Burning of fossil fuels can increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere whenever the amount of new CO2 exceeds the ability of plants to remove the CO2, and the oceans to sequester it.

Warmer temperatures appear to limit the ability of both plants and oceans to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

CFCs tend to break up a very high layer of air that reflects ultraviolet light away from earth. CFCs have ceased to be the main culprit, with the leading cause now being chlorine lost from chlorinated water. With less high level reflectivity we get more total radiation striking the earth, warming up solids and liquids.

A mjor period of global warming appears to be followed after only hundreds of years by a plunge into an ice age... the last stage of climate change before we start over with global warming.

  2. NOAA has excellent info for you. Also The IPCC report is  good.  Download and read them; they explain it all in an easy to read format with drawings.

  3. That's easy, follow the money.

If I say that GW, greenhouse gases or what ever are because of our current life styles and political system, I can cast blame. I can then start my own political movement. Then I can raise money and grab media attention and get grants from foundations. It's called the Big Lie, use by politicians for thousands of years. It doesn't matter that it's lie, if it's repeated often enough, it seen as Truth.

If on the other hand, you say that GW, climate change or whatever is due to some factor that we do not yet understand or can control, you don't get the media attention or the funding.

Lets just say you are a producer for CNN.  There is a possible story able how GW is due to increased solar activity, or a possible story that GW is due to the fact that "Bob" drive a Hummer.

Which story is going to run?

  4. Climate change and global warming are just two terms used loosely by many people to refer to the same thing.  Just imprecise use of language.

    Greenhouse gases explanation:

Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

CFCs are a minor greenhouse gas, of little real importance in global warming.  They do affect the ozone near the South Pole, which is why this particular area is warming slower than the rest of the world.  But it's not a big deal.

  5. The Greenhouse Effect was first seriously studied in the 60's by Dr Corel.  The link between the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming is "cause and effect".  Greenhouse gasses cause Global Warming.

CFCs or Cloroflourocarbons are not greenhouse gasses, they are Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs) and regulations have eliminated their widespread use though the ozone layer is still in the process of recovery decades later.

Climate Change was a term invented by the Bush Administration about 5 years ago to confuse the issue which backfired and is now seen as the effect of Global Warming, so another cause and effect relationship.

I.e. Greenhouse gasses cause Global Warming which in turn causes Climate Change.  CFC's (ODSs) are a separate environmental problem.

  6. _ell I'm going with (Bob) on this one.I've never seen him shoot from the hip before. It's a WOW factor for me.I'm not even trying to dispute any of it.......trying hard to hold it in.
