Question:

Can someone explain the trinity? With scriptures from the bible?

The trinity seems an awful perversion of the truth. It wasnt established as doctrine until after the council of Nicea in 325 AD.

The bible specifically talks about Jesus (the son) being in the water at His baptism, The voice of The Father being heard and the holy ghost being present in the sign of the dove. (matt 3)

It talks about Jesus telling the apostles to be one as he and His father are one (not in body but in mind and purpose) (john 17:21)

Christ bore witness of Himself and the father bore witness also (John 8:18)

Christ says "There are three that bear record in heaven, the father, the word and the Holy ghost, and these three are one." (John5:7) Not one in body, but one God.

The Godhead however, is scriptural (Acts 17:29, Rom 1:20, Col2:9) It is the 3 entities united in one purpose, one mind and one God. We are told that if we can become one with the mind of Christ (and there by the father and the holy ghost as well) we can become part of the godhead also and its fullness can dwell in us.

So why do you believe something that was made up by men at a council when it disagrees with the scriptures? I dont understand it.

  1. "The trinity seems an awful perversion of the truth." -- it is...

the trinity is not in the bible, because its not a biblical concept. its something manefactured by the katholic church.

  2. If God the Father is in Heaven and presents Himself to us in flesh at the same time as the son and His Holy Spirit tells you this is true...

Is He still not ONE God presented in 3 different ways?

  3. I couldn't tell you why they believe the trinity in light of Scriptures.  I do know that they cling to it like a drowning man to a life preserver.

Maybe, to discount it, they would have to come out of their comfort zone and stop listening to their pastors and listening to the Holy Ghost.  Don't know.

  4. God as a Trinity

    God

God is the only Supreme Being in all existence, places, and time.  He is Holy (Rev. 4:8), Eternal (Isaiah 57:15), Omnipotent (Jer. 32:17,27), Omnipresent (Psalm 119:7-12), Omniscient (1 John 3:20); etc.

He is Love (1 John 4:8,16); Light (1 John 1:5); Spirit (John 4:24); Truth (Psalm 117:2); Creator (Isaiah 40:12,22,26), etc.

    He is to be worshiped (Gen. 24:26; Exodus 4:31; 2 Chron. 29:28; 1 Cor. 14:25; Rev. 7:11).

Christianity is monotheistic - Only one God in existence, anywhere, anytime. See Isaiah Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8; 45:5,14,18,21,22; 46:9; 47:8; John 17:3; 1 Cor. 8:5-6; Gal. 4:8-9 for verses that teach monotheism.

    One God verses

Isaiah 43:10, "You are My witnesses, declares the Lord, And My servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me."

Isaiah 44:6, "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me."

Isaiah 44:8, "Do not tremble and do not be afraid; have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, or is there any other Rock? I know of none."

Isaiah 45:5, "I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides Me there is no God."

    Trinity

The Trinity is one God who exists simultaneously in three persons. Each is coequal, copowerful, and coeternal with the other. Each person, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is not the other. Without either there is no God; all comprise the one God.

Analogy of the Trinity:  With time, for example, the past is distinct from the present, which is distinct from the future. Each is simultaneous. Yet, they are not three 'times,' but one. That is, they all share the same nature: time

    Trinitarian Verses

Matt. 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,"

1 Cor. 12:4-6, "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6And there are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons."

2 Cor. 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all."

    Objections to the Trinity answered

The Word Trinity is not in the Bible.

Just because the word trinity is not in the Bible doesn't mean that the concept is not taught.  The word monotheism is not in the Bible, yet the Bible teaches it (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8).  Therefore, your criticism is invalid.

    The Trinity is illogical

What law of logic is it that the doctrine of the Trinity violates?  If you cannot tell me, then your statement is meaningless.  Saying it is illogical does not mean it is.

    The Trinity is pagan

Saying it is pagan means nothing.  The question is whether or not it is biblical.  Are there verses that show that the F., S., & H.S. are each God, each indwell, each have a will, each loves, etc.?  Yes there are.

    The F., S., & H.S. are each called God (F., Phil. 1:2), (S., John 1:1,14; Col. 2:9), (H.S., Acts 5:3-4).  Each has a will (F., Luke 22:42), (S., Luke 22:42), H.S., (1 Cor. 12:11).  Each is all knowing (F., 1 John 3:20), (S., John 16:30; 21:17), (H.S., 1 Cor. 2:10-11), etc.

    Regarding the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.   Each has a will (F., Luke 22:42), (S., Luke 22:42), H.S., (1 Cor. 12:11).  Each speaks (F., Matt. 3:17), (S., Luke 5:20., (HS., Acts 8:29; 13:2).

The Trinity came from pagan trinities.

There are no trinities in pagan theology.  There are triads (three gods), but no trinities (one God in three persons).  Therefore, your statement is inaccurate.

The Bible does not say that God is three who's and one what

That is correct.  But the Trinity is a doctrine arrived at systematically (by looking at the whole of scripture), not by looking at a single verse.  Therefore, your complaint is misdirected and shows you don't understand the Trinity.

Show me one verse in the Bible that says that God is three persons.

The Trinity doctrine is arrived at systematically (by looking at the whole of scripture), not by looking at a single verse.  Therefore, you won't see a single verse that says it.  Also, this demonstrates that you don't understand the Trinity, otherwise you would not have asked that question.

  5. You hit the problem right on the head- you want passages from the Bible, and that's exactly the problem- The trinity is a product of the contradictions found in the Bible.

John 1:1-3 This sure sounds like it backs up the concept of 3-in-1

John 17 (entire chapter) This either supports Jesus' mental instability or the separateness of Him and His Father.

My suggestion- Do some research on it, decide for yourself, and quit asking others to explain something they themselves don't understand. That's what I've done.

  6. Interesting question.

The Holy Trinity is not the easiest of concepts to grasp at the best of times. The Holy Bible doe's not out-right speak of the 'Trinity.'

However,  an understanding of it can be gained from the following verses. John: 14: 12.17.

These verses speak of God the Father; The Father glorified  in the Son and the Counsellor yet to come, which is the Spirit of Truth.

This gives a clear idea of the Holy Trinity.

This first major act of the Holy Spirit is seen in Acts of the Apostles: 2: 1.4.

    I hope this helps.

  7. Both the "scriptures" and the concept of the trinity were created by men, so why quibble?

  8. The Holy Trinity is the triune unity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, together in one Being. They are three persons in one God. When people refer to "God" they refer to the three persons in one God, all three together.

Thanks for your interest! God Bless you.

  9. I do not believe in a doctrine that is made up by men.

It is not true that the doctrine of the trinity was established after 325 AD. The doctrine of the trinity is found in Scripture.

As different groups argued with the early church about doctrine, the leaders formulated answers to the critics. This went on for centuries but they always use Scripture which was written before Jesus life time in the case of the Old Testament. and within one generation of his lifetime in the case of the New Testament.

Matthew 19.28 says, Make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. "Name" is singular which means that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one. This is particularly important when one realizes that the expression "the Name" in Hebrew meant YHVH. Devout Jews would not say the name of God out loud, they would say other things like "the Name."

So what the Gospel of Matthew is saying when it quotes Jesus is that the one and only God of the Hebrews is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This is just one of many instances in Scripture where the concept of the trinity is revealed.

I hope this answer isn't too long, but you seem to have believed a common lie and I wanted to take the time to politely refute it.

  10. FYI: The words "the father, the word and the Holy ghost, and these three are one" were not in the original text of 1 John 5:7; they are later additions.

    What you post is correct.

  11. this is a tuffy.look at water it can be three things at one time.

water, steam, ice.but yet it is one.when addressing the godhead it's talking about the triune GOD.this nobody has ever seen with human eyes. if your a  christian when you get to heaven set down with the lord and discuss them.you    and i only have eternity

  12. the scriptures were translated from Aramaic to greek to latin to german to English know one knows what the originals say

the earliest known copy in Greek has just gone on line

    http://www.codex-sinaiticus.net/en/

it is not all translated but soon will be

    for instance

King James Version (KJV) Public Domain

    Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

    in the codex it says

    http://www.codex-sinaiticus.net/en/manus...

1:1 Happy the man who did not walk by the counsel of the impious, and in the way of sinners did not stand, and on the seat of pestiferous people did not sit down.

2 Rather, his will is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he will meditate day and night.

3 And he will be like the tree that was planted by the channels of waters, which will yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf will not fall off. And in all that he does, he will prosper.

4 Not so the impious, not so! Rather, they are like the dust that the wind flings from off the land.
