Can someone explain the word Paradigm for me?

I looked it up and i still dont understand it

  1. A paradigm is set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality.  A patterned way of doing things.  Something that remains fixated on a particular dogma or explanation.



    Example:  A puppy is taught to use the doggie door that was installed in the front door of the house.  Every time the puppy wants to go outside to do his business, he goes through the doggie door.  One day however, the front door was left wide open and the dog couldn't see the doggie door, so he didn't go outside.  That dog is stuck in a paradigm.  The only way he knows or believes the way to go outside is through the doggie door.


  2. It's like the same word, but used in different ways with different punctuations.  

    For example. The word CAT

    cat

    cats

    cat's

    cats'
