  1. corruption

    obvious failure of communism

  2. Truth is that S.Ossetia want to break free and proclaim itself like fully sovereign Soviet Republic in summer 1990 - basing on USSR law. The Georgia have first elections to it's parliament. In April 9, 1991 Georgia  quits USSR. Ossetians boycote Georgian elections and newly elected president of Georgia  Zviad Gamsakhurdia which proclaims "Georgia for Georgians" start a open war campaign including ethnic cleansements with S.Ossetia. In 1992 Russia enforce Georgia to cease fire and sign agreements where Russia act as peacekeeper.

De facto S.Ossetia break free from Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic EARLIER that Georgia quits USSR.

But US prefer to recognize as legitimate  the pre-Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact 1933 borders of the Georgia. Because of this, the first Bush administration openly supported the secession of the Baltic countries, but regarded the questions related to the independence and territorial conflicts of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the rest of the Transcaucasus — which were an integral part of the USSR with international borders unaltered since the 1920s — as internal Soviet affairs.

  3. Russia wants control of the oil that moves through Georgia. Like every other conflict going on in the world, it can all be linked to that three letter word.

  4. I push my hardest and I can't spot a difference between that what happens and what happened with USA bombarding Serbia for Kosovo.Only that Serbian civilization originates in Kosovo but Osetia was a country of it's own before it was annexed to Georgia by the world's biggest dictator Stalin.Georgia got out of USSR so why not Osetia do the same with Georgia?

  5. Certainly!Russia;Feels that it has been dictated to rightly or wrongly by the Western Democracies!Long enough!

The straw that broke the camels back was when Poland!A former Warsaw Pact Country signed the Star Wars Treaty with Washington. This Russia believes is encircling them in a future confrontation with the West!

They have let NATO/EU countries have cheap oil and gas for a short period of time and now they have started to 'blackmail' countries such as Germany,France and others!

That is why there has been no real action against them when they marched into the independent country of Georgia!

  6. Yes Russia will not do what the west wants it to do and the west hasnt got the balls or the power to enforce it.So the west stamps its feet and chucks its dummy out the pram.

  7. All h**l has been let loose in the form of the Red Army.

  8. Russia, as the USSR, used to control Georgia and the whole region.

When the USSR split, some of the nations that formed still had regions inside with significant ties to Russia. Two of those regions, most notably South Ossetia, are in Georgia. The Russians and the Georgians disagree about who owns that region. The ethnic Russians there have been attacking the ethnic Georgians. Remember that much of Russia is run by the Russian mafia right now. The Russian government may or may not be involved in the attacks. In response, Georgia sent its military in to the region. In response, Russia sent it's military into the region, then kept marching right past it up to the boarder of the Georgian capital.

Well, those are the events, but that's not what really underlies them. Russia is trying to send a messege to all the nations of the former USSR, what Russia calls it's "near abroad". They are saying: "You may have you're own governments, but this is still Russia's region and Russia is going to control it. No alliance with the USA or anywhere else will change that because the US and Europe does not have the means to respond to Russian aggretion in the region without a huge mobilization with months of planning (and only after pulling out of Iraq where our troops are tied up) and those nations don't have the will to do that just because Russia invades it's neighbors. That's why NATO has never admitted any nations that border Russia, NATO knows it wouldn't defend them from a Russian attack. Russia reminded those nations of that fact.

To put it in simpler terms, let's say Russia is a bully at school. The west is a teacher. The neighboring countries are the kids that get picked on. At school, the teacher makes the bully behave and not steal their lunch money. So the bully waits after school right outside the door. When the kids come out, the bully hits them. The kids may complain to the teacher, but it doesn't take long to realize there's nothing the teacher can do about what's going on outside of school short of calling the police, which the teacher isn't willing to do. The next day at school, the kids give over their lunch money quietly and don't fuss to the teacher for fear of getting hit again when the teacher can't help.

In this case, the bully wants a natural gas pipeline.

  9. After the fall of the Soviet Union Georgia became an independent nation with South Ossetia a part of it.  Now S. Ossetia inhabitants are 90% or so Russian and most want to be united with North Ossetia which is in Russia.  Georgian government  doesn't  want them to breakaway.  Anyway, on the request of Georgia, Russia was in S.Ossetia as peacekeepers. Keep this in mind...

US and Israel have been involved in Georgia politics, in fact the president of Georgia is an American puppet.  US wants to set up a missile base in Georgia which was to also join NATO.  It's like Russia putting missile bases on Mexican/US border.  Meanwhile, for reasons unknown Georgia brutally attacks S. Ossetia in the middle of the night and without warning.  The Russian peacekeepers were killed as well as well over a thousand civilians.  Russia doesn't like this, and sends troops to protect S. Ossetia and  of course Georgian army is no match and retreats.

Now all you hear on US and UK news is that Russians are bad and killers and so on.  What you don't hear is that Georgia's corrupt puppet government was the first to bomb S. Ossetia and kill and destroy a lot of their capital.

Well, the world is tired of American and Israeli war-mongering...about a million have been killed in Iraq, tens of thousands in Afghanistan, lots of devastation in Lebanon, emplyment of depleted uranium weapons by American troops, and talk of bombing Iran especially by Israel which has lots of nuclear weapons, and a big danger of war with Russia because US wants to put missile defences around Russia...there was a treaty signed with Poland about a week ago.

Look, we want peace in this world of ours.  If American people are not politically and socially literate and keep on electing governments that don't even serve them, what have the people of the world done who are being killed in masses and have their countries destroyed on pretext of lies like weapons of mass destruction.

ONE LAST POINT:  Serbians were bombed by Americans and associates for about three months for trying to prevent Kosovo breaking away...so why is it not OK for Russia to recognize the independence of S. Ossetia from Georgia?  Do you see the hypocrisy?

  10. It's not so much different than other countries:

    Oily Dispute

  11. Georgia broke away from the old Soviet Union.

Later, two provinces in Georgia wanted independence from Georgia, and have been trying to break away.

These two provinces have many Russian citizens.

Georgia tried to suppress the independency moves of one of these provinces.

Russia went to the rescue and gave Georgia a beating.

The world in general was not too happy with Russia for taking such a heavy hand to Georgia.

Russia agreed to peace and has been withdrawing.

  12. Georgia launched a military strike on the province of South Ossetia, aiming to reclaim it after 16 years of semi-independence in other words the region wanted to be seperate from Georgia but Georgia didnt want that.

In response, Russia sent tanks in. Moscow says Georgian forces had killed Russian peacekeepers there and were committing acts of "ethnic cleansing" of native Russians living there.

Georgia insists it had no choice but to act after what it says are increasing attacks from separatists. Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili claims Moscow took advantage of situation to "invade" his country while the world's attention was focused on the Olympics in Beijing.

  13. Not right now babe i don't live there.

  14. 1. Georgia leaves Russia

    2. Georgia wants to join NATO

    3. USA wants to put military base in Georgia (South Ossetia)

    4. South Ossetians want to leave Georgia

    5. Georgia sends troops into South Ossetia

    6. Russia send troops in to Georgia

    8. USA sends in Condeleezza Rice

  15. Charlotte, that Steven M. explained it pretty well. Those two northern provinces in Georgia, Russia ain't going to give back.  They know they don't have to either.

After WWII we had this Cold War develop between Russia (Soviets) and the USA.  During Reagan's prez. he built up our military in sophistication etc.  Russia essentially went bankrupt, and "had" to surrender.  For about ten years after that, the USA sent them billions in aid etc.

Russia eventually discovered lots of oil.  Ever so slowly, and methodically, they rebuilt their military, etc.  We stupid Americans are so hung up on this "democracy" for all stuff?  The "people" have to want democracy?  Anyhow, Russia is back in a position where they want back their old Soviet Empire.(those surrounding satellite countries).  They'd like to get back Ukraine, and even Poland?  With their new oil affluence, and the USA installing a democracy in Iraq, and basically going broke with debt, and Europe overrun with Muslims, and needing their oil from the Russians, Vladimir Putin knows he can flex his muscle.  There's nobody going to stop him.  That's why having your own supply of oil is so critical?  If there was alternative fuels, or Europe or USA drilled for their own oil, Russia wouldn't have all this muscle.

You're very observant. You're right to be concerned.  Right now, Russia doesn't really have any limits on what they can do? There's nobody to stop them?  I ain't repub. or demo. Everybody loved Ronald Reagan. If we defeated Russia way back, why'd we let them keep their ICBM's?? Never understood that. Also, the repub. prez. Richard Nixon received nothing but praise for opening up trade with Red China? Granted, l love the bargains at WalMart, but like everything in life, eventually you pay the piker??  If you're an American, Brit, or Canadian, you want to play "fair".  Still, this Christian notion, of showering people with love, is simply foolish??

  16. Something something something 2004 invite to the group of 8 leading industrialized nations.  Now they want to fight again.  I can say that if there is a war, and Russia ends up in the same situation, they can expect to be left behind.  That can be a lesson about biting the hand that feeds you.
