  1. the red pawn represnts bella as a huma, she is the weakest of her new family

the white queen represents bella when shes a vampire, she is one of the strongest most valuable players on the team

  2. *POTENTIAL SPOILERS* (If you haven't read the whole book)

The red chess piece is a pawn. The pawn in a game of chess is weakest piece on the whole board of all the other pieces. The white piece on the cover is the queen piece. It is one of the top two strongest pieces on  the board along with the king. The red pawn represents bella as a human. The white queen represents bella as a vampire. Bella goes from the weakest player on the field (in the book) and becomes the strongest player, by becoming a vampire because she ultimately makes the final decision and most important decisions. Stephenie said that the Breaking Dawn cover basically is a cover for the series (which i just explained). If you had to describe the cover in a form that fit the book, it would be that the cover represents a game of chess. If you have played a game of chess you will know, and if you ever play a game of chess, find out, that chess is a game of strategy. The whole book is set up to see will win the game by using the strategy. This best comes out in the end when the Volturi return because Irina had discovered that Bella and Edward had a child and she reported to the Volturi that she thought it was a "vampire" baby but in truth it wasn't.

Sorry it's so long! Ha. :) Hope this helps you understand the cover better.

  3. The cover represents Bella. The read pawn represents her when she's weak, human, and pulsing with blood. The white queen is Bella when she turns into a vampire. Strong, pale and deadly.

  4. I think Bella was dumb when she decided to turn into a Vampire... Pawns are cooler!

  5. In Stephenie's own words...

"So this cover has kind of two things going on. One is a metaphor for the entire series because you have Bella going from being the weakest player on the board to being the most powerful one. So that’s the main meaning, that’s what I wanted to have on there. Then I also the feeling of a chess game because I knew that the end of the story was not going to be a great big huge battle scene. This was a court scene. This was maneuvering and having your plans and I thought that was really suited to chess so that was another reason I like that metaphor."
