Can someone explain to me the concept of Resonance and how it relates to light damping and increased damping?

  1. The first source is an illustration. If you look at it, you can see how if two waves are on the same path, the reasulting wave is the sum of the waves put together. If the waves are the same frequency and the crests of the waves peak at the same time and at the same point, then the reasult is a huge powerful wave that is also called a Resonance frequency.

    In a two or even three dimentional area that has energy waves, there are places where the waves cancle each other out and there are places where they have resonance.

    Simple harmonic motion is an up and down wave in one dimention. This is like the illustration. Dampening is taking some of the energy and diverting it in to another direction or form. It would also be changing the peak so the resaulting wave is less than the original two.
