Will I never got in trouble or went to court or anything. I just want to do some community service so that for college it will look good on my record and I found a place. I went in and they thought I was in there because of court. How can I explain that i'm just there on my free will and what do I need? and how do I put the information in my record?

  1. Get the police, a principal or a medical facility in your district to give you a letter of recommendation for voluntary service. They can also point you to community groups that need vounteers like you. There is also a government or school form to record your service. Go for it.

  2. Your best bet is to contact a non-profit organization.  find one in your area that needs help with something you have experience with or something that sounds like a good cause to you.  Often times during the summer you can volunteer at youth serving organizations with summer camps or reading programs.  Other non-profits often need help with administrative work like fund raising or event volunteering.

There is no "record" that this kind of thing will get on.  You list it on resumes or on applications.  You can give them contact #'s of people who ran the organization as a reference as well.

If your not on probation or court ordered to do CSW, then you should avoid the places that do that.  They have more than enough help and its usually not that fulfilling.  So try to contact some non-profits, they always need volunteers.
