what does

alternate pick mean , trem pick, and legato?

  1. When you pick "normally", you push the pick downward across the strings. This is called a down-pick. When you pick upward across the strings, it is called an up-pick. Alternate picking is a style of picking where you alternate between down-picks and up-picks. So, you would pick down-up-down-up-down... etc., etc. Tremolo picking is a fancy term for alternate picking REALLY God d**n fast. When most people do shredding solos, they're "tremolo picking." Legato is a general musical term (it's not specific to the guitar) and for guitar players, it just means hammer-ons and pull-offs. (I'm assuming you know what those are.) Hope that helps.
