Can someone explain to me what a hoedown is? I just received an invitation in the mail to one..?

Question

I want to know what to expect before I accept? Is this something you would have to dress for. My wardrobe is limited to cowboy boots and jeans for the most part.

A hoe down is a country dance party. Sometimes held in a barn or dance hall. If you're lucky the band will be live with a fiddler and some "pickers".

Generally casual dress is appropriate and boots are a must if you wanna line dance. Expect good eats and plenty of it. Often casual food is served like hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans and corn on the cob. This varies however.

I think you should go, especially if you have never been to one.

They're a hoot! Plus a great way to meet new people!

cowboy dancing...line dancing...it's pretty fun, especially when you're surrounded like friends and all of you are making fools of yourselves, but you're making fools of yourselves together...that happened to me, but i'd go if i were you, they are really fun!

A hoedown is either a prostitute who is down or it is an old fashioned barn dance. My guess is that you have been invited to a barn dance, a rootin' tootin' boot scootin' two-step and square dance roundup shindig.

i was going to write something but it would be inappropriate for some of the kiddies who read these.i haven't been to a hoedown in years but they are a lot of fun,they are usually held in a barn or dance hall (sometimes in a big tent) and they play traditional country music that is kind of like a cross between bluegrass and country with a fiddle and banjo and you dance the shodish (a traditional round dance), two step,three step,texas two step (also known as the stutter step),swing,cha cha,and waltz.the dances my mother taught me a long time ago.they are a lot of fun and jeans,boots (with slick soles) and you may want to wear a shirt (or you may be the hit of the party) are good for dancing.have fun.

I'm sorry but I found this funny.

I think this like a western style party.  You dance all night and eat a  lot of food.  Your wardrobe is probably fine.  But wear a nice button down plaid shirt or some nice western style shirt.  Jeans and boots are fine.

Cowboy boots and jeans are appropriate attire. It's basically a country barn party with dancing.

Like line dancing and square dancing. (Or any other kind of dancing the people like!)
