Can someone explain to me what a personal attack alarm is and how it helps you in a situation?

I would like to buy one because now that it is getting darker earlier (winter is coming) i still need to walk my dog at night, and i don't feel too safe even though i live in a safe neighborhood.

Its an alarm that you set off if you are attacked - the high pitched sound that is emitted will attract attention (hopefully) and thwart the attack.

Then again, depending on the type of dog you own, it could be a deterrent in and of itself.

Even better - if its legal in  your area, carry pepper spray.
