Question:

Can someone explain to me what to do when both my TivO and my cable box come unplugged?

The outlets here are kinda weak, and this one power strip with both the cable box (Scientific Atlanta) and my TiVo come unplugged.

When it does this, I plug both in... and it displays the number 98 on the cable box screen, and I don't have any of my normal channels.

Normally, I just have to go about unplugging both cords and trying various ways of plugging them back in, but this is time consuming since it's random and TiVo takes like 5 minutes to get back on.

Anyone else have this problem and know what I should do?

I can't use customer service for either, since they just blame the other company "Call Cox." "Call TiVo." "Call Cox." "Call TiVo."

  1. Hi DF,

Unplug both boxes for a couple minutes.

Now plug in your cable box and give it 10 minutes to stabilize.

Now plug in your TiVo and give it time to completely power up.

    You should be OK now.

  2. I have my TiVo hooked up to the RCA output's of the cable box and those go into the RCA inputs to my TiVo. I have the TiVo outputs hooked up to the RCA inputs to my TV. This way when I have a problem it is easy to find the right connections. I do not have to try and find the right channels for the TV and the cable box. All I do is get them all to work on the AUX inputs/outputs. This saves a lot of trouble shooting trying to get the things on channel 4 then the TV hooked to the TiVo. Give it a try, let me know if this helps you, it saves me a headache. Good Luck!
