Can someone explain trading draft picks in keeper leagues to me?

I have recently taken over a team in a 12 team keeper and we keep 6. I dont really understand how trading for picks work. If you trade a player for a draft pick, wouldnt you be over the player limit after the draft?

if you trade away a player and get a draft pick, then you will complete your draft one round before the draft is officially over.

in my keeper league, i have an extra 2nd, 3rd, and 9th, and i owe a 7th and 8th. so i will be done after 12 rounds of drafting instead of the 13th.

if i owed more picks than i gained, then i would need extra rounds after the draft to fill out my roster. or some leagues might force you to fill up those open slots in free agency. hope that makes sense.

if you trade away a pick, you will get another pick once everyone else is done

if you trade for a pick, you get done before everyone else
