  1. for mechatronics see:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechatronic...

Electircal engineers do a wide varity of things.  In 25 years of working as an eletrical engineer, I have:

    Desinged and built test equipment

    Designed test procedures

Programmed in about 10 computer languages

    Designed intergratged circuits

    Worked in quality assurance

Desinged the electrical part of large machines, programmed those machines, then debugged them during start up.

Most often I have spent most of my time in an office, but for some parts, I would spend most of my time in the lab or on the machine floor.

  2. well this is a new field.  and I think its something that has been around but refined in scope.  I say that because there has been alot of hype about the rovers running around on mars.

So in this field you are involved in the design of systems utilizing electronics and mechanics. Motors, gears, solinoids, actuators etc.  You not only need to know the electronics but the mechanics side also.  The engineering folks at Disneyland would be considered mechatronics at least the ones that worked on the TIKI room for instance. The rides get blurred into a industrial engineering classification more than anything else.

  3. mechatronics is the short form of mechanical electronics. it is very similar to robotics. for eg. u must have seen the robots used in assemly lines in production units. design , development and manufacture of such robots comes under mechatronics
