Can someone explain why some companies do not allow doubling on their grocery coupons?

Some stores have double coupons and triple coupons but I've noticed that some companies write on their coupons do not double.

For instance I have a coupon for 55cents off Finlandia Cheese over 6 ounces but it says "Do Not Double" but I wonder why since I would assume the second 55cents off in the doubling of the coupon is not their responsibility to pay the Grocery store back.

(Are they just being mean?)

  1. It is a principled decision on the part of the company in question to protect its "brand."   J. Crew and other apparel companies do not lower their prices because they want to protect their brand from becoming an Izod, or a similar tortured brand.  Airlines are the opposite they give seats away for a few dollars and are constantly in bankruptcy.

  2. Yes, they're just being mean.  It has nothing to do with business or making good marketing decisions they just want to p**s you off.
