Can someone explain why we don't look like our parents?

Both our parents have the same eye and hair colour as each other. My siblings and I all have the same eye and hair colour as each other but not like our parents. How does that work out?

  1. Meiosis.

    Specifically,  "crossing over"

    look it up.

  2. Each gene is made up of two alleles: these can be either dominant or recessive (a dominant allele dominates a recessive allele). Eye colour will be determined by your parents for example: if both your parents have brown eyes and their alleles are the same (homozygous brown) or (BB) the child will definitely have brown eyes.

It is however possible for a person with brown eyes to have a blue eyed allele. Blue is recessive: therefore if you have 1 blue allele and one brown allele you will have brown eyes. Your gene will be (Bb) B= brown and b=blue. If two people with this gene (Bb) have a child there is a 1 in 4 chance that it will have blue eyes.

Because the blue allele is recessive you will only have blue eyes if your gene is (bb). Therefore two blue eyed people will definitely have a blue eyed baby.

Green is the most recessive eye colour this means that both blue and brown is dominant over it.

  3. its your genes

  4. and what about the postman?

  5. BECAUSE.... *drum roll please*

    THERE IS A GOD...

    ba dum dum. crash. lol

  6. Grandparents?

    Aunts and uncles maybe?

You don't have to be identical to your parents, if your parents are related to someone who looks like you then.. Well, yeah

  7. It's all down to genes. Without being too science-y, if your mum's mum (your grandmother) say, has brown eyes, and your mum's dad has blue eyes - your mum has a chance of having either eye colour. So, your mum has brown eyes, but the blue-eyed gene is still in her. Therefore you are able to have blue eyes. It is the same with hair colour.

  8. if your parents have a dark eye color, like brown, it is possible for their kids to have a lighter eye color than either of them. however, if your parents have a light eye color and you all have a darker eye color than them, you may want to ask them if they adopted you.

  9. well unless everyone throughout your family line has the same hair and eye colour you wont have that colour, you eye's might come from your grandma and your hair from your great grandma :)

  10. Take a look at what DOMINANT and RECESSIVE genes are:

  11. Maybe you are adopted? My brother was adopted and my mom and dad never told them. I told him in later years
