It will be from Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I don't know if there's a snappy one-liner from the movie or radio or TV series, but here's a longer quote I just found which apparently comes from the book:

"A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.
