Can someone give an example of an analogy?

i would really appreciate it since our lame textbook doesn't say what an analogy is. thx!!!

An analogy basically a comparison to a similar relationship which is made to help you understand what the relationship is. They're sometimes made into a puzzle format as a word exercise.

A couple of examples:

A DVD is to a movie as a CD is to music.

Girl is to dress as boy is to tie.

On is to off as hot is to cold.

(They're usually phrased this way)
