  1. hey man, i'm an engineering major (mechanical engineering). an electrical engineer can have a variety of jobs (as can any engineer) it really depends on where YOU want to go. the principles learned in any engineering curiculum can take you a long way. elec. engrs can have jobs ranging from wiring schematics on machines to service technicians to design to business - really, it just depends on what company you work for and what you want to do. Right now I'm working for a company that makes superchargers (EATON), making good money and enjoying it. expect any where from 35k-45k starting out - maybe more maybe less but after a few years of experience and your PE stamp salary goes *way* up - 6 figures.

  2. Im a Electrical Engineering major ,lets get the money first, EEs here in utah start is at 48k to 52k, and go from there.

as far as job description, there are too many areas:

in general you design circuit boards and chips, sometimes you will have to write the software for the chips yourself too, you also deal with signals processing, you design a device that can recieve these signals (over the air or through a wire), process them, discard interferance, and work the data recieved. board layout is another one. Lets say a year ago somebody designed a power supply, well since then prices on some components went up and some went down, it falls to you to re design the board with the cheaper components to do the same function without too many compromises

    and thats just some.

First, you need to see for yourself what you like. I dont know what classes you had so: if you decide to go for engineering (any type) you will have to take Engineering Physics 1& 2,Eng phys 2 that deals with aspects of being a EE , when you take that class, if you liked what you learned there, i think is a step on the right direction to EE, also when you take your first circuits class, if you like that even more, go for it.

just like the other dude said, any engineering, you will make good money
