Can someone give me a good translation of 'oikos'? (ancient Greek usage)?

Some say family. Some say household. Does the household include the servants? the actual physical property? Does the family include relatives who don't live in the house? Thanks in advance.

Oikos is all these.It's the physical property but also everything and everyone that is in it.Homer in Iliad calls the tent of Achilles "oikos"(Ω 471).
