  1. your ISP (internet service provider, BT for example) give you those things, thats how you aquire an internet connection. You will not be able to use someone elses. To find those details from a pc in your house for e.g that is connected to the internet click Start -&gt; Run type cmd hit enter. Then in the dos prompt type ipconfig/all and hit enter this will show you an example of your ip add, dns etc.

    Hint your ISP will allocate you with a certain number of IP addresses, the last segment or octane of the address will increment depending on how many connections are being used by the internet. The IP address is unique and automatically assigned to the next device connecting to your broadband. unless you asked for a static IP address.


  2. you need to use an IP address in the same subnet as the dhcp range allocated on the router, but 2 or 3 numbers above the highest. You must ensure you also do NOT use the router address. The subnet mask must be identical to the one in the dhcp. The dns should be set to the router IP address as it acts as a dns proxy, and so should the default gateway.
