Question:

Can someone give me a quick run down of Star Wars? ?

I am the one person on the planet who is clueless about Star Wars. My sons (6, 8, and 10) are dying to see the movies. So, I am wondering: Are they appropriate for boys of this age? Which movie should we start with? And anything else you can tell me that might be helpful.

THANKS!

  1. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is a bit graphic and overall it is more mature but if your kids want to watch the Star Wars movies, it would be unfair to stop them from watching one of them. Start with the original trilogy (the ones that came out 30 years ago). if they really like the movies, i recomend Star Wars: The Clone Wars. its more kid  friendly and they would really enjoy it. and all of the movies (besides the clone wars) have an opening...thing that you have to read, so if your kids cant read that would be a problem.

  2. Well I was 8 when I saw Star Wars in the movie theatre and I absolutely loved it. I ended up seeing it 17 times in the movie theatre I liked it so much. The 1977 movie is the one I'm talking about. That's always been my fave.

I took my kids to see the Clone wars just a couple weeks ago. Ha. great for kids. they loved it.

Take your pick. The last three were pretty cheesy. as far as I'm concerned.

  3. They are appropriate for their ages...i watch them first when i was 10 and have been addicted to everything star wars. Start with Episode 1 The Phantom Menace...it goes all the way through episode 6. This is the ultimate story about triumph of good versus evil with lovable characters and amazing special effects.

  4. The movies are comparatively appropriate for boys of that age. My only reservation is that some parts may seem kind of scary for a 6-year old, but the movies are generally very tame. Definitely start with "A New Hope", and continue to watch then in the order they were released. They are certainly great movies and I know you and you sons will have a great time watching them.

  5. The Original Trilogy (Episodes 4, 5, 6) is perfect for kids that age, as are Episodes 1 and 2. By the time any child has gotten through them all, they should be ready for Episode 3 (there is an almost gruesome scene near the end that might be a little rough for the smallest of kids).

The Original Trilogy was made first, and establishes the main characters, universe, and mythology. Episodes 4 and 5 are the best of the whole series, and if you are not hooked after that, forget it.

The First Movie (Episode 4) was a pastiche of Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress, the Three Musketeers, Flash Gordon, WWII air force movies, Laurel & Hardy, Alice in Wonderland, and the Bible, hiting all the points of Joseph Campbell's Journey of the Hero.  Watching it is a good entry point to science fiction, fantasy, mythology, and classic films.

In the Original Trilogy, A fatherless farm boy, a roguish outlaw, and a old wizard, along with sidekick robots and a giant furry creature, rescue a princess from the Evil Empire, the boy finds the hero within himself and grows to fill the role of his father, who turns out to have been corrupted by evil. There is adventure, excitement, romance, comedy, and redemption.

Episodes 1, 2, 3 tell the backstory, and how the father became evil. The visuals are more spectacular than the Original Trilogy. but the first movies have a much better sense of fun and adventure, and are better acted and directed.

  6. Boy is good at shooting things with his spaceship. Has some robot friends and inappropriate feelings towards his sister. Big bad guy in a dodgy black suit with a bad throat wants to blow stuff up. Turns out boy is big bad guys son but he blows up his big spaceship house anyway.

The original films are very good. The most recent ones not so much. I think they should be fine for your boys. They're not too violent no blood and guts!! might be a bit confusing for the 6 year old but I'd say you'll be fine other than that!! Hope they enjoy them!
