What is considered good mileage? I am just going to be driving to and from work ,which is in a little town. I don't drive very far. What was your first vehicle that you had? Please no rude comments.

  1. The mileage on the vehicle can mean little, mostly it depends on the care and maintenance the previous owner used.  Some vehicles may have high mileage, but may have been driven mostly on highways with allot less wear and tear.  Some may have been driven with a majority of city miles and allot of stop and go.  If you can the best thing to do would be to take the vehicle to a mechanic prior to purchasing it and ask them to look it over for you.  They will charge around $125 for this service but it could save you allot more in the long term.  If you know someone who is familiar with the mechanics of vehicles ask them to come along when you go shopping, they may be able to help you.  Good Luck, buying a used car is always a chance.

One last idea would be to google the car your interested in, by year and model, see if thee have been recalls and read opinions of others who have owned that vehicle.

  2. good mileage

    usually means

    miles to the gallon

and this can be gotten by buying a 3-4cylinder car

3's are fewer, sprint, swift and a few others

4cyl very common everybody makes em

others peg milage as what is too many miles

well most cars will run 200,000mi or 300,000km

if they have proof of regular oil/tranny fluid changes

if you look at a car with high mileage

    they have no service records

    look elesewhere

    if it has high miles

    they had regular maintenance

    look at the dip sticks

oil shud b clear orangee/brownish NOT black

really borrow a bike and see how long it takes you to bike it

buses even take bikes on front now check out this combo

driving a moped is fun too

45mph is plenty to get around town

new $900 and pass by every gas stn

  3. 12,000 TO 15,000 per year is considered normal.

so anything under that is best.

    Honda or Toyota from 1998

Civic, Echo, Acura CL, Ford Mustang V6

    98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder

  5. It depends on the car. American cars good mileage would be between 50,000-80,000 miles, Foreign cars like toyota and honda good mileage would be considered 100,000 miles. My first car was a 1994 Honda Accord Ex, I got it when it had 150,000 miles on it, I still have it and now it has 270,000 miles on it and still runs perfect. I dont drive it much since I bought an Infiniti g37 recently but I love my old honda and I just cant get rid of it cause i like it so much.

  6. for comparison purposes, a Prius hybrid gets about 42 mpg, a Jetta diesel gets about 52 mpg, and an old big block pickup can get as low as 8 mpg. I'd say an average compact car gets about 30-33 mpg.

  7. well, we use kilometers here in canada.

U have to look at a car that you have, or have seen, look at the condition, and if it is stil reliable and use it as an example. My moms van is a 97 and it has 215k on it, so now i know that i dont want to buy any used car that has more then 215k on it. becuase my van is constantly i need of work, i know that 215k is too high.

but realisticly, high mileage all depends on the car. If its a north american car, like sunfire or cavalier, high mileage could be something like 180k

but something like a honda, high mileage could be something like 300k
