  1. GO out look in retail what is available & decide what you want in a Laptop .

I am a Mac person So I would be Bias as any advice usually is.

Shop around make your  own mind up what you want. Then spend you hard earned $$

  2. Just get in the car and go to Officeworks, then you don't have to worry abut where to go online etc.

If you like Macs, go to your local NextByte, or apple store. Should be in the yellow pages.

  3. Are you employed?

    Salary sacrifice a laptop.

There are a lot of good deals around at the moment, so work out what you want from a laptop.

I'd recommend sticking to XP for a windows based model as Vista and laptops are not made for each other. You'll see what I mean if you get one.

80gb SATA Hard drive, 2gb Ram, Athion dual core, TFT screen, high capacity battery, built in wireless, DVD burner, would be the minimum and you'd get that for about $900 to $1,200

Good value for money brands are Asus, NEC, Toshiba.

Dell looks cheap but by the time you paid for the extras - forget it.

Try places like Storm, Austin for the above brands, and sometimes Harvey Norman has a sale where they Compaq and HP etc at a real bargain due to volume importing.

Apples on the other hand are like dream machines - we all want one, but who can afford one? If money is not a worry, then do yourself a favour and always go apple.
