Question:

Can someone give me an idea about the cost of removing a wall to install a corner shower?

I already have a shower stall in my master bath. I wanted to remove a wall and make it a corner shower with glass doors. It is currently leaking and don't have a clue where the leak is actually coming from. We thought it was just coming out from under the shower curtain or the corners, but it is too much water to be that. I also put towels down on the floor and it was still leaking. I think it is coming from either tiny holes in the grout or from underneath the floor of the stall. I figure that taking the one wall down and installing a new shower stall would probably alleviate the problem. The cost is what is bothering me. If someone has any ideas on cost cutting, grants, or something, please let me know. Thanks

  1. The leak is probably in the floor, from the drain leasing to the wet spot, that's where mine was.  You will most likely need to tear up the floor and redo it.  A good estimate is to price out all the materials that you will need and then multiply by 2.5 (for labor) to get the final price.  You can save alot of money by doing the demolition yourself, as it is really not that hard.  Also, try some of the DIY free training seminars at Lowe's or Home Depot.  You will save lots by doing it yourself.

  2. You have a water pipe leaking and this can lead to mold growing behind the sheetrock.  Get a plumber there NOW.  Neglected leaks can cause your entire house to become infected with mold and be inhabitable.   Cost will depend on location, load bearing wall, what is below.  Most important is find the leak and check how much damage.
