I teach mission friends at my church. the idea for this month is helping/volunteering. My teaching book is not in yet so all I have is pictures of the missionaries we are studying and where they are, what they do. So till my book comes I have to make up my own teaching activities. My book usually has ideas for games or activities that help the children remember what the missionaries do. By the way, the children are mostly girls age 3-5

  1. We sponsor a mission child each year and encourage the children to bring in coins - we identify and value each coin and put it in a bank to be sent to him at the end of each month.  We also make him pictures and even sent him class pictures.  We write for them on the picture what they like to do. I don't know if any of this will help you or not but this is what we do to encourage mission/charity in our classroom.

  2. How does the story "The Little Red Hen" sound to you?  It's a very cute age appropriate story for preschoolers.  It teaches the importance of helping vs not helping. (it's about a red hen who lives in a farm with other animals, the animals do not help the hen do anything around the farm, she then starts baking a cake and also asks for help  but  the animals refuse to help and just lay around the farm, the story ends when the cake is baked, all the animals want a piece but the red hen teaches them the lesson that since they were too lazy too help, they don't deserve cake ).    Then you can have the students tell you what would have been the appropriate behavior for those lazy animals.  You can make a graph of their responses or you can act out the story where the students help you bake some bread. Or anything else that comes to mind.   Hope this helps a bit.  (used to teach preschool)

  3. There is a clean up song that you can sing. it can be a game where everyone work together and sing the song together and after they are all done give the children a sticker or candy to take home. that always work.

    The song goes like this:

    Clean up, clean up

    everybody everywhere

    clean up, clean up

    every body do your share.

The song is simple, sweet and easy for children to learn

  4. have the girls think up ideas of helping around the town r park

    like planting flowers or

panting a banner saying clean up

    its really fun

get donations for paint or flowers

    or just buy it

  5. Have your girls/boys plant a garden in a town park, pick up garbage, or help each other make cookies or Painting a picture...

  6. real easy game to make or buy is one with community helpers, like a memory game or card game to match them and or describe what they do or how they help others.  also this group likes to dress up and play the part....so let them or have some visits with them in class or at their work if possible

  7. How about making a kids vesion of jepordy. Put the name of the missionaries on top then have different caragories like 'Name This Missionary' were you can show them the picture and they have to guess there name. Things like that.
