  1. I don't know what your husband's interest are, but my husband really enjoyed going to Rothenburg, Germany. There is a Criminal Museum there where they display the different type of methods used to punish people back in the medieval days. Also, there are a lot of good shops there too and my husband really liked to walk at the top of the wall (you can see a lot from there). My  husband is really into history so this was his favorite trip while he was stationed in Germany. Give me some things that your husband is interested in and I can give you some better ideas.

  2. If you want relaxation instead of history try the Taunus Therme in Bad Homburg, a nice thermal bath with sauna, solarium, huge swimmingpools, movies and and and... That can be a "treat" for the whole family.

Or drive up to the Hoherodskopf/Vogelsberg, they've got a summer-toboggan run there.

    Good luck and have fun!

  3. If your husband is into outdoors stuff or even just specatular scenery, I would recommend going to Interlaken, Switzerland. More specifically I would say to stay in Beatenberg and go to Interlaken and the surrounding areas for your recreation.

Interlaken is the outdoor/extreme sports capitol of Europe. It does not disappoint if you are into nature, majestic views, or anything outdoors. If there is an outdoor activity it is available there. Summer time is by far the best time to go. There are several lakes and rivers all over the area and you are nestled in the alps. Even typing this answer I am realizing that it is time to return for round two of the best trip I have had since I have been here in Germany.

Beatenberg is just a few minutes up the mountain from Interlaken and a much nicer place to stay than directly in the city. Cozy little Swiss mountain town with the must stunning view of the alps no matter where you are. We stayed at  Mercure Hotel while we were there last. It is set into the side of a cliff, overlooking a lake below and the alps above. Never spent so much time on a balcony with so many other options available. We could not look out our window without saying "Wow" everytime.

If you are interested in going somewhere like this, here is a helpful link:

www.tripadvisor.com (just search for interlaken or beatenberg)

I use this site everytime I travel in Europe. It is loaded with pictures and travel tips from vacationers like yourself and it uses four or five hotel search engines (expedia, orbitz...etc) to find you the best deals on lodging and just about anything else you need for a trip. Good luck!!!
