Can someone give me information about "Accounting"?

I am looking up possible careers relating to business.. Please explain to me what exactly accounting is and the type of jobs that surround it.

Accounting is a system to recording financial activity. this is a pretty broad topic and while i could (and would love to) talk  for hours about it, i would recommend looking sites that could give you some history on the matter.

but since you did ask, what you can do with accounting? (silly person) to put it simply, Everybody needs an accountant! there are auditors (external, internal, public and Federal) there property accountants and cost accountants and fund accountant and staff accountant and IT accountant and account payable accountant and account receivable accountant and fixed assets accountant and revenue accountants. accountants that deal only with international issues and others that are working to get the US standard to meet up with the international standards.

I could keep going but I'm going to hold back. there are a lot of options or accountants and even if you leave the accounting field it is still a degree that will be useful. A teacher i had years ago gave me the example that you could have an accountant manage you store but you could not have the store manager do your accounting.
