  1. It's a hoax, but clever is not the word I would use, considering that all the doomsday theories put forward so far are completely ridiculous when looked at from a scientific point of view.

  2. Hoaxes are never clever. They are a sad representation of a society's decadence.

Planet x was the original name for a planet once thought to exist beyond Neptune due to perturbations in Neptune's orbital path. Later, when technology advanced and probes were sent past Neptune, refined measurements indicated that Neptune's perturbations were overestimated and no such planet x existed.

Planet x is often confused with Zecharia Sitchin's Nibiru. Often this will be found on pseudowebsites written by authors who have no understanding of what they are writing about. One needs to always use discretion when conducting any "research" on the internet which is not regulated to discriminate between truth or fiction. Money is often the evil incentive for those who try to pass off fiction or disinformation as fact on the internet.

If you are speaking about Nibiru, it does not exist either. Proper research would have led you to this fact. When Sitchin attempted to translate ancient Sumerian tablets, the Sumerian language system was still a mystery. Add to this the fact that Sitchin had no educational background or training to conduct an interpretation. Sitchin made many many mistakes in his interpretations. At the time of Sitchin's attempt, Eric VonDaniken was very popular with his ancient astronauts books. Sitchin decided to cash in on the popularity of this fad. He fictionalized much of his own imagination into his translation of the tablets. The end result was Nibiru.

Today, the Sumerian text is easily translated. The tablets are even available for viewing by the public. Proper "research" shows that there is not a single scholar or history scientist that agrees with Sitchin's interpretations of the tablets. His false imaginative additions to the tablet texts are now easy to spot.

Sitchin has made his life's income from his books and lectures on Nibiru. He has refused to admit to his fabrications. As an old man in his 80s, he has no choice. He has no other form of income.

Unfortunately, Sitchin, a once respectable man, will go down in history as one of the biggest frauds to have lived.

As always, there is and always will be a small cult following that will refuse to let Nibiru die. Just like those who still believe in a hollow Earth or a flat Earth or that the Universe was made in 7 days.

    Choose your research resources wisely.

I can promise that it wasn't me clavius. Whoever cruised through decided it was against his odds to post an answer in favor of the hoax. Give me a thumbs down if you want. I could care less about points.

  3. You obviously have not been doing a lot of research or you wouldn't be asking this. It is not a clever hoax.  A clever hoax would fool intelligent people.  This only fools mindless middle school students. Have you ever been to a library?  Try it.  Check every astronomy book.  If they use the Dewey system they should be in the 520s.  Check the index.  Look for Nibiru or Planet X.  Or do this.  Ask the librarian for the encyclopedias or almanacs.  Any sign of Nibiru or planet X?  No?  Why not?  Or if you want to be fancy ask the librarian if you can run a journal search.  Most libraries subscribe to services that provide access to thousands of journals in full text.  Search nibiru?  No results.  I wonder why.  Try planet X and 2012.  Nothing?

This is research.  You did not do this.  I don't know what you did, but it wasn't research.  Looking at youtube is not research.  Quite the opposite.  There is no greater source of nonsense on the planet than youtube.

  4. The Planet X that is supposed to be coming is an invention by people who have a book to sell.

They had already predicted that this planet (then called Nibiru) would arrive in 2003 and cause a lot of havoc.  Of course, in order to survive, you had to buy their book.

I did not buy the book and I still survived.

They changed the name for two reasons:

    1.  The guy who invented the Nibiru legend was tired to see "his" fictitious planet hijacked and forced to participate in the Big 2012 Hoax Off.

    2.  Meanwhile, astronomers have talked of a Planet X (nothing to do with this one) so that the charlatans can use the confusion in their favour.

The "real" planet X is still only a statistical probability.  It would be in a stable orbit, way beyond Pluto; not on its way here.  Not now, not in 2012, not ever.

If a planet like the one they describe was on its way inwards to be near Earth in 2012 (or even 2015), it would already be visible in any amateur astronomer's telescope.

There are millions of amateur astronomers.  I'm sure that not all of them are secretly members of the US government cover up.  If there really was such a planet, we would know by now (and I would have seen it in my telescope).

Anything that is further away than the Moon must be visible from at least half the surface of Earth.  The idea that it can only be seen from a tiny area is impossible.

It is not a clever hoax.  But it seems to work anyways, since lots of people are still asking questions about it.

  5. PLANET X IS A HOAX!

Nothing spectacular will happen in 2012 (unless you count the Olympics in London).

It is just a myth which mysteriously propagates (mostly because of the History Channel and YouTube)

Planet X/Nibiru does not exist. If it did we would have found it by now. We have mapped the sky in the infrared several times in the last 25 years (including WMAP, IRAS etc), and it would show up. It is not there. We would have found it if it existed. So all the nonsense about the return of Nibiru/Planet X is just that – nonsense

There is no scientific evidence for the existence of Nibiru

Furthermore, at the distance it must be to hit us in a little over 4 years, it would be reflecting enough light from the sun to be detectable.

Thanx to previous question from Brant and answer from bikenbeer2000, we know how bright it should be by now – it would have a apparent magnitude of 7.4 – which would not be visible with the naked eye – but easily visible in a modest telescope and would have been spotted by amateur. If there was a conspiracy to keep it quiet – it would be out of the bag by now.

Ask someone where it is supposed to be, get a pair of binoculars and look for it.

The videos on YouTube that purport to have evidence are disingenuous to say the least. They put together pictures of other objects (e.g. Jupiter, comets even a dust shell around a distant red giant star) and try to scare people. There is no validity to their claims. They present NO EVIDENCE at all.

As for the predicted catastrophes – the most popular one seems to be the Pole Shift!

The sun will have a pole reversal that year – it has one every 11 years – it is not a problem.

The earth’s magnetic field is less predictable –

but is still nothing to worry about: we know that the magnetic field does not collapse in the process of reversing polarity- if it did, there would be major extinctions that correlate with the geologic record for pole reversals - there is no correlation.

  6. don't worry it's not coming

  7. My advice is to ignore pepole who say Planet X is coming.  It's a hoax, and it's not clever.

    EDIT:

Hilarious how, at a certain point, all the skeptics' responses suddenly aquire a thumbs-down rating all at once.  Seems the facts have touched a nerve.

  8. No planet X is coming. There is no large planet in a highly eccentric orbit that comes to the inner solar system every so many thousands of years. There are only comets that do that. And they are all much smaller than a planet. And we can see them coming, sometimes years in advance. If something as big as this planet is supposed to be were coming any time soon, it would already be obvious to all kinds of people, especially to people with back yard telescopes and who know how to use them, like me.
