how long before the timing belt needs to be replaced usually? (or how many miles) it is a 2.2 liter, 4 cyl., 4 door with only 109,000 miles and had an older woman for an only owner. tell me anything else you think would be helpful also, good or bad. thanks!

  1. 100,000 miles sounds like a good time to replace it, but I bet the old one looks just like new.

  2. ask the previous owner if they did ever change the belt? if not then yes i highly suggest you get your belt replaced. make sure its had a tune up, new spark plugs, air filter, all fluids have been flushes = brake, power steering, tranmission fluid.

  3. Toyota recommends every 90k miles.

  4. great time, my friend has a tundra and the manual recommends to change it every 4 years or every 100,000-150,000 mi.

  5. they say abt 80-90k to service timeing belt,i have seen cars go up to 200k on original belt, but thats a real gamble considering that if the belt snaps you can do some damage to the engine like bent valves.so i would say keep all maint,up 2 date and soon try to do timeing belt and change your water pump at the same time the timeing belt grabs the timeing belt now that the mechanic is in there have him install it at the same time, and use geniune toyota timeing belt to make sure you get another 100k with no timeing issues...good luck
