Can someone give me their experiences of having and particpating in a timeshare?

We enjoy it.....the timeshare that we have access to is a member of the RCI points program....we trade our weeks for points and then trade in the points for other condos around the world.  It is a great way to have your lodging paid for.

  Word to the caution....buy your timeshare at a resort area that people want to go visit...then you will have no problem trading your weeks for points.....that's what we have done

Timeshare is a fun way to travel if you know how to do it.  You can stay at top of the line condos for motel 6 rates.  I guess the only problems I have seen with timeshares is when people buy it but can´t really afford to travel every year,  people that buy thinking that is a good financial investment  or people who paid thousand´s to a developer and then find out that the same timeshare is worth $500 bucks in the resale market.

As long as you do it for the right reasons timeshare can be a good experience.
