You really should take a look at this free e-book! It may be short but it taught me a very important lesson about online poker.

You should register to play for free on fulttiltpoker.com or ultimatebet.com.  You can check out books at the library or watch it on TV.  But to get a full understanding once you understand the ranking of the hands, (i.e. what a straight, flush, two pair, and what beats what) you need hands on training.  It is free to play online.  You don't have to play for real money, and experience is definately the best teacher.  And when you are not playing, you can watch what wins and they have a history button that you can use to go back to see what you had versus what won.
