Can someone good with Macs and computers help me out?

Question

I am about to purchase a new black Macbook laptop computer. But I dont know how you get the internet on a laptop.

I have a Windows PC that I am on right now with Comcast Cable Internet. How will I get the internet on my laptop?? Do I have to buy that Airport thing? But then I saw these cards... and I just am really really confused about this. Thank you!!!

I don't know what all your stuff is but in most cases, you would buy a router and plug your cable internet into that, then the router sends it out as a wi-fi signal. In order to get your Windows pc to use it you'll also need a network adapter to pick up the signal but your laptop should have one built in.

If you already have a broadband internet connection, you can purchase a wireless router, connect it to you broadband modem, and you'll be able to share your existing broadband connection wirelessly.

Have a technically adept friend help you pick out a wireless router. They are not too expensive, but getting it working (and secured properly) might be a little tricky if you've not done it before.

Since you are a Mac user, you might look into an Airport Express. But these are a bit expensive if you only need basic wireless capability.

You don't need apples base station to provide internet for your macbook. I learned the hard way. I bought a airport extreme base station back in 2003 for my ibook G3 for $250.00 when they were new. And i can say that there is nothing special about them. I ended up buying a different wireless router in 2005. For $59.00!!  Because my Airport base station wasn't giving enough coverage around my home.  Much better signal and much more customization options.

The Macbooks i believe come with wireless network cards built into the laptop so that is something that you don't have to worry about. All you need is a wireless router.

So do yourself a favor and save yourself some money. Apples current Airport Extreme is priced at $179.99 a little to expensive for most. You can go for the portable Airport express but that to is to expensive for most users.($99.99)
