Earth and sky/clouds have very close relationship as for instance, water in earth/sea evaporates by Sun and forms into clouds in the sky which in turn rain drops on the earth, life grows and so on. Hence, why not? In fact,it has always been so: head held high in the clouds, feet firmly on the ground!

I think that it really depends on the context. If you are describing the person as a whole, I would use only one. If there are muiltiple aspects that you are trying to define you'd have a little more wiggle room.
