Can someone help looking for information on Portuguese celebrations?

Question

My boyfriend is part portuguese and he was was asked to be the vice president for this up coming year. He said that I would have to be the grand marshal in the parade. Can some one please explain the royalty system of the Portuguese heritage society and what each roll entails. I know this may differ depending on each region.
