Can someone help me become a vegetarian?

I hate the whole concept of eating meat. I think it's disgusting, but I usually resort to forcing myself to eat it because I don't know how to have a healthy diet without it. I really need help. I just don't know how to get started. I'm fine with animal products (like milk and stuff). It's just the meat that I can't stand.

I'd love links to websites, especially one's with recipes. What kind of vitamins should I be taking? I just need any general info.

Thanks.

  1. I've been a vegetarian for 16 years.  The only real difference in my diet is the lack of meat.  I take a regular multi-vitamin everyday.

  2. Well basically you just need to do your research on foods, figure out meals and everything. Looking up a vegetarian food pyramid could help you a little bit. To know around liek what you should eat.

The link above is a list of foods vegetarians can eat.

Very hepful I like to think, you can kinda plan what your going to eat with that almost.

About the dairy products...cheese really, you might want to do research on vegetarian cheese? I'm not exactly sure what part of the meat you find digusting, the taste, smell, look, touch, or the fact it's a dead animal but Non vegetarian friendly cheese is made from animal rennet found in the stomache of a slaughtered calf.

Those links will probably help you alot, as there about vegetarianism and stuff so there's that.

If you have friends that are vegetarians there always nice for help. If not there's always Y!A.

Oh and you might want to look at the Morning Star Farms brand...very good, their food looks and tastes like meat so.

Here's their website so you can see what they have.

Thugh I just went shopping and I had to look a little harder to see where they kept there stuff so look for that when you go shopping.

  3. EDUCATE YOURSELF, seriously, the more disgusting facts you know about meat, the easier it is to give up!

as far as vitamins and supplements go, YOU DON'T NEED THEM! Increase your intake of whole, fresh fruits and vegetables.

for some motivation to give up meat, check out www.meat.org

it's really not as hard as you would think.

Get ready to start feeling FANTASTIC!

(but keep in mind that you will go through a detox phase -- dont worry, you will feel better soon! your body is just getting rid of the toxins of meat!)

  4. I allways wanted to be one but didn't know how to get started. Then I saw this and it started for me. It's called "Meet Your Meat".Watch It! and show it to your friends.

Eat peas, beans, soy, etc. for protein.

You can find alot on this wbsite.

Also, go on their to get your free vegetarian starter kit magazine. They don't send you any junk mail after that or anything. I did it and they just sent it and thats it. No shipping or anything. It has alot of great stuff in it including recipies too.

P.S. The dairy industries sells baby male cows the second they are born to sluatery for veal so humans can have the milk instead. They break the babies knee caps so it can stand up and build muscle and then throw it in a tiny creat and in a hot truck for hours to await their death.

Female baby cows are fed growned up cows that have died, sometimes from diseases, and blood (plus their regular dose of steriods and antibiotics) instead of their natural diet of mother's milk untill they can get pregnant and start producing milk themselves.

    It's true! http://www.themeatrix.com/

it's kind of cheesy, I mean vegan cheesey haha, but it has alot of great points and facts.

Also do research on vegetarianism and veganism and crualty to animals and health benefits too!

  5. Eating meat is not disgusting. It is a very natural process. Look around you. Almost all animals eat some form of meat.

  7. First, I'd like to reply to some of the other commenters trying to discourage you.

YES animals eat meat, YES humans evolved to eat meat, I'm not denying that, and neither are most vegetarians, (though vegans are more unpredictable,) BUT animals don't have a choice. In the history of humanity, we didn't have a choice. We do now. There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of that freedom and choosing.

Second, how to become vegetarian.. Everyone has different daily needs for protein, based on weight and on if you exercise a lot. Do a bit of searching to learn how much you need, and keep that in mind. A lot of foods are good sources of protein. Dairy products, nuts, some breads, especially whole grains, eggs, beans.. And of course vegetarian meat substitutes. For the first few weeks, pay attention to how much of those you're eating, and how much protein you're getting from them, adjust as needed, and just get in the habit of it.

Make sure you eat a wide variety of those, as well as of fruits and veggies!

Tofu has this stereotype of being nasty, but it all depends on how you cook it. It's considered a normal part of the diet of omnis in many places. I don't know much about actually cooking tofu, so that's all I can say on the subject.

Something else interesting to know is that people nowadays tend to eat more meat a day than needed, so don't stress too much. It's not as integral as people seem to think. Americans base their meals around it, when on the food pyramid, its group is tied for lowest daily suggested intake, (asides from fats and sugars,) and isn't actually a group itself, part of it is beans, eggs, and nuts.

  8. take a multi vitamin with b12 and iron in it and you'll be fine.

if you have a general distaste for meat already then this wont be difficult for you at all.  there arent any specific vegetarian recipes i can give you because it's really not a huge transition in your meals.  if you like chicken ceasar salad, get it minus the chicken. if you want a sandwich, have grilled cheese instead of a BLT.  simple. when you really think about it, its not like meat eaters have just plain steak steak steak for bfast lunch and dinner every day.

you will be perfectly healthy if you dont eat meat. in fact, most vegetarians (if they eat more than just bread and cookies all the time) are typically more healthy than meat eaters.  so really, just go for it, see how it makes you feel after a couple of weeks and i promise you'll be so satisfied.  good luck!

  9. ok im a vegg head! and thats the way i started off but then i got used to not eating it at all and  i asked my doctor if that is ok and she said drink lots of milk and it will keep up with what your body is missing from not having meat  :]

    hope i helped :]

  10. Animals eat us too...

  11. ive been a vegeatrian for 3 months =] its hard at first but worth it =]

ok you need a protien. these are  mad eup of different acids and aminos, so to get a WHOLE protien you need a complex carb, a protien from somthing other than meat and a vegetable, so try eating a pb&j for dinner, sounds funny doesnt it? or a whole weat pasta with vegetables in a peanut sauce or a cream sauce with some protien powder =] have fun and good luck

  12. This website is the best! Its a veggie forum, that even has a section for new vegetarians. They have vegan sections, raw vegan sections, etc. But their vegetarian advice is the best! Everyone on it is so positive & motivating =) They also have a section for sooo many recipes. Its great!

  13. Progressively eat less meat and more beans and rice. Like changing food brands for show animals, it has to be done in steps. 1/1 meat - 3/4 meat 1/4 veg. - 1/2 meat 1/2 veg. - 1/4 meat 3/4 veg. - 1/1 veg. All in a month's time.
