Can someone help me build a cheap recording studio at home?

I want a decent home studio just to mess around with and to make a few songs

  1. I use a Roland VS-840GX.  Its a console about the size of a briefcase.  It can record 4 tracks simultaneously and playback 8.  It has AWESOME effects that you can apply to your tracks.  I paid a few hundred bucks for it about six years ago.

    If you want to use your computer to record instead, you might consider getting a USB audio interface.  They are popular for use as inexpensive beginners studios.  I think most will come with some sort of multitracking software like Cubase LE.  Take a peek at these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigatio...

    You'll need a mic no doubt.  If you don't know what to get, then get a Shure SM57.  They are inexpensive and just about any studio in the world will have some of them laying around.
