Question:

Can someone help me cut my landline bill?

Though I'm paying like $25 a month for a landline, for various reason I will keep the it. But I do want to lower the bill still a little.

I figure I can cut another $5 if I withdraw from the international calling plan. The problem is I need to in some rare occasions (maybe 3-5 times a year) send AND receive fax from overseas. Without the int'l plan I would probably be paying $5 a minute for each page of fax according to ATT!

So how can I get rid of this plan while still being able to send and receive fax? I heard of web fax, but the subscription fees seem even more expensive? And how exactly do I receive fax if using web fax? Is it still received from my landline?

Another option would be go to some UPS/Fedex shops with fax services. I know you can send, but can you receive fax in those shops too?

  1. if you get rid of internationall calling plan, you will still be able to receive ALL calls.

Further if you do not make a lot of calls you can switch to 'measured rate service' which still allows free incoming calls and in my area is about $13. If you make any local call you are charged about $0.01 per minute.

For fax sending, go to ups store for send OR you can buy prepaid international cards (see drugstores or gas stations) which allow cheap calling. The only thing is you have to make call first and when the remote fax machine answers push the green button.
