Can someone help me figure out how much cotton yarn I need for a loom-knit summer beanie for chemo patient?

I have one of those "knifty knitter" looms for quick knitting and I'd like to use that so I can finish the hat fast. But, I've never worked with cotton fyarn or a hat. I've had a request for cotton since it's a good summer material, but since it doesn't have a lot of "give" I don't know if I should treat it like everything else I use. I just want to make sure it gets worn by my poor baldy.

  1. It seems as if the weight difference is not any at all from the cotton and the other yarns.  Here is a chart that you can compare with.

Also here are some web pages you can check out.

Hope these helps with what you were asking.  But, if you already know how to make a hat on your loom I would use that pattern and just use the cotton yarn.  It should take just as much yarn as your pattern calls for.  Just remember that the skeins have different yardages and weights.

    Good luck on your project.

  2. Most yarns don't have a lot of give until you knit them.  You go by standard knitting charts to determine how much because the gauge of a loom is fixed (you can't change needle size).  From my experiences with the loom, you should only need one skein.  If the skeins are little smaller (like Sugar N Cream) then get two to be safe, but that should be all you need.  The normal knit st will make is stretchy enough, but if you are still worried, you can do a rib stitch which is knit 1, purl 1
