I'm looking for the cheapest way to get from the United States to Italy. If i can find a cheap ship to get me there, then all I will have to do is buy a plane ticket from Texas to wherever I leave from. I haven't found really good deals on plane tickets, but I would need to leave in the middle of June and return around the 12th of August.

  1. Travelling by ship probably will not be cheaper.  Air Berlin don't fly from Texas.  I like the idea of going via a cheaper city on 2 tickets; TX-NYC on 1 ticket, then NYC-Italy on another, for example; or, TX-Germany, then Germany-Italy on separate tickets, for example.

http://www.euroflyusa.com fly from NYC to Italy with good prices, and http://www.airone.com fly from BOS and CHI to Italy with good prices.  Get from TX to one of these, and it might end up much cheaper overall vs. trying to find a ticket from Texas to Italy the way airlines would normally route you.

Sign up for sale alerts from your airport to the airport in Italy using http://www.farecompare.com

Also check in January for consolidators.  They usually have best availability for an upcoming summer in January; http://www.bookingbuddy.com will hunt several for you.  Also try flights.com, economytravel.com, airdeals.com, and justfares.com  A travel agent would likely book you through a consolidator, but you can search and book yourself for a better price--since now you know where to look ;)

  2. you could try flying through Ireland.

aerlingus.com have pretty reasonable fares from all across the u.s to dublin and shannon.

then if you are lucky you can find fares to Italy for almost nothing on ryanair.com (provided you don't have lots of luggage)

don't think they sell flights for next summer for a few months yet though.

  3. I flew RT from JFK to DaVinci for 340 after tax and fees, I used a small NYC co. called Comfort Travel, I don't even know if they have a website, I found em in the Village Voice, it was totally legit. I flew Alitalia, the lady next to me on the flight had paid aboit 900 through the airline, sucker. I love Italy, have a great time! no layovers, it was direct
