  1. You can not even buy gum in Singapore, so I guess you must really love it to smugle it into the country.

I recall the 20 year old (or 19?) was cained for vandalism. I wish more countries did that. Think if it was your new car that the kid tried to destroy, you would want to at least cain him, and more.

  2. i recall one or two youths caned for spray painting cars

the chewing gum incident i think was fake,

the kids were beaten, and then allowed to leave, it was years ago before i went to iraq so over 5 years ago, maybe 9 to 12 years

  3. Chewing gum would just get you a fine or a short jail term at most (like if you spit the gum in front of a cop 10 times). The only American I heard who was whipped was because he was vandalising public property by spray painting graffiti illegally. Vandalising is a serious offence in Singapore.

  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_P._...

    it wasn't for chewing gum.

check it out. Its  the one that was all over the news and i assume you mean this one.

  5. michael Fay"?? but it was not for chewing gum but vandalism

  6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chewing_gum...

The american was Mke Fay, who was caned for vandelism.  The chewing gum ban was linking to the caning because the punishment for having gum could include caning.

  7. That's BS. You won't get caned for chewing gum.
