I dont have a power tilt and trim, cant afford to update motor and advancing age is limiting my lifting ability. I was thinking along the lines of a gas type lifter or maybe a lever attachment. I have the facilities to fashion something up out of metal, just something to ease the weight on the inital upward thrust.

  1. How about a lever? Get a piece of pipe and attach with chain links to a point above the prop where you can get more leverage than with just using the top of the motor.

I had an 18' with a 85hp Evinrude and I hardly ever tilted my motor up. Never on a routine basis. If you ramp at the same place all the  time, have someone look underwater to see if you can just put on trailer without tilting the motor. It does not need to be out of the water, just where it will not drag or collide with things.

  2. I would first look for an after market lift... then try to find one for sale on E-bay

Here are two links for you to check out:

    http://www.breezeindustries.com/marine.h...

    http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0043158019...

  3. Cut out the section of the transom where the motor attaches and fashion a heavy duty hinge for it to enable you to tilt the motor....rig up some sort of locking method to lock it in place when operating the boat like a sliding dead bolt on each side.

  4. Try lifting it from the skeg, all of the weight will be on the front of the engine and you should be able to lift it with one hand with no problem.

  5. For many smaller outboards there is a assist lever you can use on top of the engine to help.

I looked at Overton's but couldn't find one.

Maybe Boat US or West Marine?

Yes, there is one at West Marine, they call it an "Outboard Engine Tilter" and it is $69.99. Just go ahead and search the title in the previous sentence, the link is just too long to include here.

    Best of luck
