I would like to find my mums dad, she never knew him, she was born in birkenhead in 1944 her mothers name was Kathleen Taylor. I expect him to have been in the army, as it was looked bad upon in those days to bring up a child on your own. Any information concerning this would be great although my mum has passed away now i would love to find him for her. Thanks

  1. Your mother's birth certificate may have her father's name on it. Your gran may have received some sort of maintenance payment through a court, if she did there might be a record of it at the local court office, but failing that I do not think you will have any success, if he was in any of the services, British or American, they tended to "close ranks" and move the man

concerned away from the area so that he could not be contacted, it is quite possible he was never told about the pregnancy by anyone. In 1944 men were still being sent to war, they were not around for long, it is possible he left before they could be married, and never returned. There are numerous possible reasons why your gran never spoke about him, limited only by the imagination.

  2. Was your gran's maiden name Ford, I think I found your mum, was she  born in the J/A/S quarter 1944. The volume number is 8a and the page number is 1021.

  3. ask ur moms mom!!!
