Can someone help me in belly dancing?

i am having trouble with my hip lifts and drops. i know, they are probably easiest to do, but oh well. so, any advice on how to do this?

  1. I don't know, as you didn't say, but are you in a class? If so tell your instructor the problems you are having. I'd have to see you move, to classify your problem in your technique of lifts and drops. In Belly dancing your knees are always slightly bent. I always say the lift /drop is almost the way a cat lifts her little bottom when she is rubbing around your leg.

    If you aren't in a class but using a video, then try on cable/digital t.v. the show called "Shimmy". They really make it easy to learn the techniques, even if you don't do them perfectly, at least you have an understanding of the bases of the move. Which by the way, is the key to most eastern ethnic dancing from Africa to India, from Turkey to Burma.


  2. Yup, I hope I can put it properly into words. Put your wrist on your hip and move your hand the way you want to move your hip and follow your hand with your hip. Keeping the wrist rested on your hip. Try one side then the other. follow in figure 8's.
